Short answer

How is ParaPathways different from the ParaPro?

ParaPro (1755) gave one composite score, and it was last administered August 31, 2026. ParaPathways (5757) replaces it with two separately scored subtests, 5758 and 5759, each on a 310 to 350 scale. A ParaPro score you already earned still counts where your state accepts it.

The short version

ParaPro (1755) is the test ETS retired after August 31, 2026. It had 90 selected-response questions across reading, writing, and math, and it gave a single composite score. A ParaPro score you already earned still counts wherever your state accepts it.

ParaPathways (5757) is its replacement. It launched on September 1, 2025, and it splits the same skills into two separately scored subtests. If you already passed ParaPro, take a breath: your score still counts wherever your state accepts it (ETS keeps scores on record for 10 years), so you do not need to retake anything.

Which test should you take?

ParaPro was last offered on August 31, 2026, the end date state education departments published, so ParaPathways is the ETS test to take now. Register for both subtests together (5757) or for either one on its own (5758 or 5759), and check which scores your state requires.

If you already passed ParaPro, you are set and there is nothing more to do. Either way, check your state before you register, since passing scores and accepted tests differ. See your state ParaPro page and the ParaPathways passing score by state.

What is genuinely new

  • • Two separate scores instead of one. You get a Reading & Writing score and a Math score, and you need to clear each on its own.
  • • New question formats. Besides ordinary multiple choice, some questions ask you to type a number or pick more than one answer. Classroom-application questions are not new: ParaPro had them too.

What stays the same

Here is the good news for anyone mid-study. The core reading, writing, and math skills overlap heavily between the two tests, so the practice you do now still helps you on ParaPathways. You are not starting over.
